Our Overall Rating
The Bottom Line
ASG Security Equipment & Protection
ASG Security is a mid-sized national security company that uses best in class technology. They’ve partnered with industry leaders like Honeywell and Alarm.com to deliver a comprehensive security solution. ASG uses wireless technology, and they offer all the basic security pieces you should expect from a security company like door/window sensors, motion sensors, key fobs, and the ability to control your system with a smartphone. Their most impressive piece of equipment is Go!Control by 2GIG, a wireless control panel backed by Alarm.com’s patented Crash & Smash Protection technology.
ASG Security offers the Go!Control by 2GIG, which is one of my favorite panels and one I’ve tested personally (but with a different service provider). It’s a color touchscreen that acts as both a security panel and a controller for home automation devices. It’s equipped with 24-hour battery backup to keep you running even if your power goes out. The panel uses Z-Wave radio technology to control other wireless devices in your home and is one of the only wireless panels that offers full voice response, aka two-way voice.
The panel also includes Crash & Smash technology. If a burglar happens to find your system and smash it, help will be sent. The technology works by first sending a soft signal to the central monitoring center, even if there is no threat. If your security pin is not entered to disarm the system, like in the event your alarm panel is smashed, the signal turns from a soft signal to a call for help. This same technology also helps reduce false alarms.
Cost of ASG Security
It’s difficult to obtain the cost of ASG without an in-home consultation. We do know that pricing starts at $36.95 per month for cellular monitoring with a 36-month agreement and approved credit. They also require their customers to be homeowners.
From time-to-time, ASG will run special promotions, giving us insight into pricing. For example, a recent special offered $99 installation which covered a Go!Control panel, three wireless door/window sensors, one pet-immune motion sensor, one key fob, and remote access from any device.
What you need to know about ASG monitoring and equipment:

- UL Listed Home Security
- 24/7 Monitoring for Burglaries and Fires
ASG for Home Automation
While not every package includes smart home features, the right package will provide access to home automation through ASG Connect.
ASG Connect adds interactive features to your home security system so that you can control it from anywhere. The Go!Control panel provides in-home control of home automation devices. You can also use your computer or smartphone to control the system from any location that offers Wi-Fi, 3G, or 4G wireless.
ASG also uses Z-Wave technology, which is an industry standard radio communication method for home automation. They offer temperature, small appliance, light, and lock automation. In addition to basic smart home services, they offer video surveillance through indoor and outdoor wireless home security cameras.
Home Security Cameras
ASG uses a mix of camera types. Many of their cameras are Alarm.com specific, but they also offer cameras from Honeywell, Panasonic, and Pelco. However, this is partly because they provide security to businesses as well as homeowners. For the most part, homeowners will stick with the basic Alarm.com cameras. This lineup includes the static indoor IP camera, a pan and tilt camera, and an outdoor camera. Though they do not share the specific models they sell, for this review, we will assume they use the latest technology. If that is the case, the cameras should all be equipped with night vision and the ability to record 720p HD. And while the security system uses cellular technology, home security cameras will require and rely upon an internet connection.
What you need to know about ASG’s interactive features:
- Blackberry, iPhone, and Android Apps
- Go!Control Panel
- Z-Wave Automation
- Light, Lock, and Temperature Automation
- Video Surveillance
Customer Service & Support
Every home security company on our site offers 24/7 burglary monitoring, but ASG is one of few that offers 24-hour customer service. They offer US based support during normal business hours and off shores support to fill in the blanks.
In addition to 24/7 customer care, they offer multiple customer friendly programs like a security guarantee and a service guarantee. Finally, they offer a customer move program.
The primary limitation with using ASG is that they have limited national coverage. If you move to an area they do not support; you will have to cancel your contract which requires a 100% balance payment. ASG has offices in Connecticut, New Jersey, parts of Texas, DC, Maryland, Northern Virginia, New York, parts of Florida, Pennsylvania, Louisiana, North Carolina, Oklahoma, and Massachusetts.
Our biggest concern about ASG is that there is a common thread among online customer reviews. Multiple customers have complained that ASG does not provide a locked-in rate, stating that they experienced a price increase mid-contract. While this isn’t unheard of, it is becoming increasingly uncommon. There are multiple companies with strong customer service records and the same technology that will not increase your rate. In fact, our top rated home security company has only experienced one minor rate increase in 5 years. And the increase didn’t impact all packages, just one.

- Contract Cancellation Requires 100% Balance Payment
