Monitoring Plan Pricing
Vivint's pricing information isn't as available online as other alarm companies. You might find review sites claiming Vivint offers a $39.99/month Smart Home plan and a $49.99/month Smart Home Video plan. Others say Vivint has three monitoring plans: the $29.99/month Smart Protect, $39.99/month Smart Protect+Control, and Smart Complete for $49.99. The thing with Vivint is that it frequently changes its pricing, so the best way to find out the real cost of monitoring is by calling up Vivint. However, beware: Vivint is known for its aggressive sales tactics; no matter what the sales rep says, don't feel obliged to buy anything unless you're ready.
We've already reached out to Vivint and should we hear back from them, we'll update this article to reflect Vivint's most current pricing.

Included Features
Although Vivint's pricing may vary, its included features remain the same. All monitoring plans include 24/7 professional monitoring, Vivint Live, and smartphone access.
- Professional Monitoring: Vivint's two central stations in Utah and Minnesota monitor for any alerts detected by your security system. If a possible risk is detected, a live agent will contact you and dispatch help if needed.
- Vivint Live: During an emergency, a live agent will call you directly on your Smart Hub. You can inform them of your status or cancel the alert if it's a false alarm without having to pick up your phone.
- Smartphone Access: Using the Vivint Smart Home app, you can control, monitor, and access your security system and smart home devices anywhere you are. All you need is a Wi-Fi or strong 3G/4G signal on your phone.
Choosing a more expensive monitoring plan will give you access to more advanced features, like home automation and video monitoring solutions.
Home Automation
With home automation features, you'll be able to add smart home products (e.g. smart locks, smart thermostats, smart locks) and automate your system using the Vivint Smart Home app. The app lets you create rules that define how your devices should respond if a trigger event occurs. For example, you can make your security system arm itself whenever you lock your door.
You'll also gain access to Sky, a learning AI that is capable of automating your smart thermostat based on your routines, schedule, or location. It's kind of like Nest's learning thermostat, but it's a part of the Vivint security system.
Video Monitoring Solution
Vivint's video monitoring solution includes three types of security cameras and a local DVR. If you have access to video monitoring, you can add indoor cameras to monitor the inside of your home, outdoor cameras for your lawn, and a doorbell camera for your front door.
You'll also receive complimentary cloud storage for two cameras of your choosing. These cameras will be able to store motion event videos in the cloud for 7 days. Cloud storage for each additional camera will cost you extra $5/month.
Finally, you can purchase the 1TB Vivint Smart Drive for $249. This device lets you store rolling videos from up to four cameras for 30 days.
Equipment Pricing
Vivint's equipment pricing is just as hard to find as its plan pricing, but here's some of Vivint's equipment and how much they will cost you based on our research.
- Door/Window Sensor: $35
- Glass Break Sensor: $70
- Smoke/Heat Detector: $70
- Carbon Monoxide Detector: $70
- Water/Freeze Sensor: $70
- Outdoor Camera: $299
- Vivint Doorbell Camera: $229
- Vivint Ping Indoor Camera: $199
- Element Thermostat: $169
- Vivint Smart Drive: $249
When buying Vivint equipment, you have two options: you can either pay for it upfront or finance it.
Vivint is on the expensive side when it comes to equipment pricing, so paying for it upfront will probably cost you up to $1000 or even more. However, doing so gives you the power to negotiate a no-contract monitoring where you can cancel anytime.
Financing your equipment will bring down your upfront equipment fee to almost nothing, but it will be added to your monthly monitoring fee. You can spread out your equipment fee to up to 60 monthly payments, but the good thing is that it has 0% interest. However, you'll be locked into either 4-year or 5-year monitoring contract.
Other Fees You Should Know About
With Vivint, there are other fees associated to the installation and maintenance of your system that you should know about. First, Vivint requires professional installation of any equipment. Installation starts at $49, but for new systems, the installation fee is usually $99. If you purchase additional equipment mid-contract, you must again pay for installation.
Second, Vivint offers a lifetime warranty on equipment that covers equipment maintenance, including repairs and replacements, for the first six months. After that, you must pay $49 per visit.
Third, if you equipment's problem is caused by misuse or abuse, they're not covered by the warranty and repair services must be paid out in full.
Finally, if you're moving, you can ask a technician to box up your security system for $129. Another $129 is required for installing it in your new address.

Ways To Save
As you might have already noticed, acquiring a Vivint system can be pretty expensive. This is why it pays to do your research and keep your eye peeled out for deals and promotions.
Watch Out For Deals
Vivint is eager to get new customers to sign a contract, so if you're already rooting for a Vivint security system, why not take advantage of the deals the company offers to new customers. While doing our research, we've come across several deals including free installation and free equipment.
Vivint is keen not to provide discount codes. Instead, they post promotions on their website that you can avail by clicking on their links or calling their hotline. If you talk to a Vivint sales rep, be sure to let them know that you've seen the promotion and that you're interested in Vivint because of it.
Time Your Purchase
Vivint, like most alarm companies, gives commission to their sales reps whenever they make a sale. They are also likely required to reach a monthly quota. If you want to squeeze out the best deal, call towards the end of the month. It's the time of the month when most sales reps are more willing to give out special deals just so they can reach their quotas.
Referral Program
What better way to get new customers than getting your existing customers to advertise your products? Vivint offers generous credits to their customers who can refer friends and family to Vivint. After signing up, you'll be able to log into your online Vivint account and retrieve a referral code. Simply send it to friends and family who might be interested in Vivint and if they sign up, you get up to $50 credit on your bill.
Homeowners Insurance Discount
Once you have your Vivint system installed, call your insurance adjuster immediately. Most insurance companies give policy discounts up to 20% to homeowners who install security systems in their homes.
