CPI Security History & Overview

Based in Charlotte, North Carolina, CPI Security has been in the home security business since 1976. It was formerly known as Crime Prevention, Inc. before it rebranded as CPI Security in 2004. Currently, CPI Security offers its services in the Southeastern United States area, more specifically, in parts of North Carolina, South Carolina, and Atlanta, Georgia.

Based in Charlotte,CPI also  has field offices in Raleigh, Greensboro/Winston-Salem (both in North Carolina), Greenville (South Carolina), and Atlanta (Georgia).

With over 40 years of experience, they design, install, monitor, and service home security systems. They offer security systems powered by Alarm.com and Qolsys equipment. The same manufacturers provide equipment for our top-rated home security company.

Why They're Different

CPI Security is a local alarm company, but they offer features and services that match the offer of much larger companies with national availability. By keeping their local perspective, they provide a unique level of customer service that most alarm companies don't and can't offer. For instance, it's much easier to schedule repair or maintenance service considering that CPI Security's offices are within just a couple of hours drive from most of their customers.

CPI Security Equipment Overview

CPI Security's security systems are branded inTouch, and every equipment package starts with a control panel. The control panel is a central component that ties together sensors and other devices while also communicating alerts to the monitoring center. Currently, CPI Security offers a control panel with a 4.3" touchscreen interface as a part of their Essentials package and a tablet-like control panel as a part of their Essentials Plus and Edge packages.

Equipment Installation

As mentioned earlier, CPI Security offers professional installation. Currently, it's the only equipment installation method they support. They consider it as an advantage because improper installation is one of the leading causes of false alarms in the long run, so if a professional technician employed by them does the installation, they believe it would help prevent false alarms. Nevertheless, there's nothing to worry about the technician drilling holes in your walls. CPI Security only installs wireless equipment, most of which are attached to walls using industrial strength double-sided adhesive tape.

CPI Security Monitoring Overview

Professional monitoring using cellular communication is another primary service offered by CPI Security. As an alarm company, they mainly monitor for burglaries and break-ins, but they can also dispatch fire and medical help if you have the right equipment. For example, to get fire dispatch, you'll need a smoke alarm from PCI Security, and for medical help, you'll need a medical emergency button from them.

CPI Security’s monitoring service does require a service contract. The good news is you have the option to sign a month-to-month contract, which means you can cancel anytime you want, if you pay the full price of your equipment upfront. Otherwise, CPI Security's monitoring service comes with a 39-month to 60-month contract.

  • Burglary, Fire & Medical Emergency Monitoring
  • Police, Fire Department & First-Aid Responders Dispatch
  • Cellular Monitoring
  • Month-to-Month Contract Option
  • 39-month to 60-month Contracts

CPI Security Customer Service Overview
