Guardian Monitoring Plans Explained
Guardian offers three monitoring plans: Standard, Essential, and Premium. As the plan goes up in price, so does the value it adds to your home. Unfortunately, Guardian isn't as transparent as other companies when it comes to pricing. This review will give you an estimate of how much each monitoring plan will cost you.
The Standard plan covers basic security and life safety monitoring and smartphone access. If you're looking to protect your home but nothing more, this is the perfect plan for you. Our researchers estimate that Standard plan charges around $30 per month, which is a competitive price considering that it uses cellular monitoring. Cellular monitoring is more expensive than landline monitoring, but it's also more secure and reliable. This is the type of monitoring we recommend. Smartphone access also adds in great value. Where most alarm companies charge higher for plans that include mobile app access, Guardian lets you use their mobile app even if you're on the most basic plan.
The Essential plan takes things up a notch by adding home automation features and access to the SkyBell video doorbell. Although these features are included, remember that you must buy the equipment first in order to use them. The monitoring package only includes the base station, door/window sensors, motion sensor, yard sign, and decals. Any additional equipment will be charged to you upon signing up.
Our researchers estimate the Essential plan's price to be around $45/month.
The Premium plan goes all in with video monitoring. Aside from the video doorbell, you'll be able to use the indoor and outdoor camera as well as the Stream Video Recorder. Just like any other equipment, the cameras and the recorder must be purchased upfront. The Premium plan will cost you anywhere between $50 to $60 per month.
Take note that in exchange for the free basic equipment package, you're required to sign a long-term contract. Guardian's contracts can be as short as 3 years and as long as 5 years. 3-year contracts are the industry standard, but a 5-year contract is too long. If you're signing up for a Guardian security system be sure to ask for the 3-year contract option.
Ways To Save
Usually, with a small company like Guardian, the best way to get a better deal is to simply negotiate. Guardian requires a home visit so use that to your advantage and negotiate with the sales rep. If you're fortunate, you might be able to get free equipment, equipment discounts, or even a lower monthly rate.
Here are other ways you can save money when shopping for a Guardian security system:
Time Your Purchase
Guardian offers a Best Price Guarantee wherein they will match any comparable written quote or qualified internet offer from other companies for installation and activation of a base home security system. You can use this to your advantage by timing your purchase when companies are offering their equipment at a lower price, such as during Black Friday or Cyber Monday sales. Once you get a lower equipment quote from another company, contact a Guardian sales representative and cash in on the Best Price Guarantee.
Claim Your Insurance Discount
Insurance companies love the idea of having a security system in place because it lowers the chance of your house being broken into. To reward customers who invest in security systems, they usually give out discounts on your insurance premium. All you need to do is print out a certificate of proof that your home is protected by logging into your Guardian customer account and show it to your insurance adjuster.
Check Back For Promotions
Guardian occasionally offers promotional discounts and when they do, you'll be the first to know if you bookmark this page and check back often. We're always on the lookout for promotions and we'll regularly update this review.
