My Alarm Center Equipment & Protection
My Alarm Center offers security equipment in two ways. One is the traditional way where you request a quote through their website or over the phone. The other way is through their direct-to-customer division. This division is called LivSecure and it has its own website. There’s actually a difference between the equipment offered by My Alarm Center’s local dealers and LivSecure. And we’ll get to that difference in a second.
Home Security Equipment
My Alarm Center’s equipment is 100% wireless and uses a cellular signal. Cellular signal is by far the most secure form of transmission used in alarm systems. As the equipment is wireless, there are no wires for burglars to cut. A cellular signal is also free from disruptions caused by bad weather, including internet and power outages.
My Alarm Center partners with well-known equipment manufacturers, allowing them to offer high-quality equipment. They offer all the pieces of equipment needed to protect your home from intrusion, fire, carbon monoxide, and environmental hazards. Everything is professionally installed by a local technician sent by My Alarm Center.
On the other hand, LivSecure systems can be installed on your own. In fact, our editor, has personally installed and tested LivSecure. You can read about her experience here. Being able to self-install is one of the main selling points of a LivSecure system. Why install your system on your own? Because you can! Also because it saves you from installation fees and from wasting time waiting for the installer to show.
LivSecure offers 100% wireless equipment through a partnership with Qolsys. It is backed by a partnership with Alarm.com for connectivity and their mobile app. These partnerships also add Rapid Response Monitoring Service for monitoring, which is the same service used by Frontpoint, our top rated home security company.
Speaking of monitoring, the two have different monitoring plans and offers as well. My Alarm Center offers 3 monitoring plans—MyEssential, MyHome, and MyHome Premier. MyEssential offers monitoring only and it costs $34.99/month. MyHome adds access to an Alarm.com app, which lets you control and monitor your system. This includes viewing event history, managing keypad codes from your smartphone, text alerts, remote arm/disarm and lock/unlock, and remote access and control for your smart thermostat and lights with smart scheduling. MyHome costs $49.99 per month. And lastly, MyHome Premier at $59.99 per month adds image sensors and cameras. Cameras in the MyHome Premier plan can stream live videos to your web-enabled device, record based on motion, store videos to the cloud, and send video alerts. There is also an added feature which allows you to receive email alerts with an image of the alert attached.

The three monitoring plans offered by LivSecure are LivEssential ($34.99), LivEssential+ ($44.99), and LivPremier ($54.99). The plans require you to pay a $99 activation fee, but they come with free equipment. All three monitoring plans offered by LivSecure include a control panel, a motion sensor, 3 entry sensors, 1 smoke detector, 1 arm/disarm fob, 1 yard sign, and 2 window decals. You can expand your system by buying additional equipment as needed though both + and Premier come with additional devices.
LivEssential is for basic 24/7 professional monitoring plus app control for remote arm/disarm and real-time alerts. LivEssential+ adds a camera to your system plus video monitoring. LivPremier includes LivEssential+ equipment and services plus a thermostat and smart socket plug-in. Of course, there is also climate control and light control using the Alarm.com app

My Alarm Center for Home Automation
Both My Alarm Center and LivSecure offer home automation with the help of the Alarm.com app and the right equipment. First, there is the camera. With My Alarm Center, only the highest plan offers video monitoring along with other camera functions. That is equivalent to $60 a month just to have your videos monitored and stored. LivSecure is much better.
A free camera is included in the LivEssential+ plan. Other camera functions are accessed using Alarm.com. There are also other home automation devices such as smart thermostats and connected lights. These are all controlled using the mobile app which works with iOS, Android, Blackberry, Windows, Pebble, Apple Watch, and the Kindle Fire.
My Alarm Center offers this level of smart home control in their MyHome plan. LivSecure only offers remote access and control to smart thermostats and lights if you’re subscribed to LivPremier.
Customer Service & Support
My Alarm Center is rated A+ by the Better Business Bureau. Despite the rating, they have received a number of complaints especially when it comes to their customer service and contracts.
There are reports ranging from tricky contract agreements to contracts that renew automatically without notice. There are also reports of customers who find it a hassle to discontinue their agreement, even after moving out of the country. MyAlarm Center and LivSecure both require contracts for service. While the contract length for MyAlarm Center is unknown, LivSecure asks for a 36-month agreement.
Speaking of moving, what if you move to another city, or maybe a different state? My Alarm Center and LivSecure (with My Alarm Center’s backing) service only 40 states. If this happens, you have to give them a call before moving. If you move to an area they service, LivSecure will move you for free, My Alarm Center will not. If you move to an area they don’t service, you will probably have to pay a fine to get out of your contract.
On the bright side, My Alarm Center has a 24/7 customer care center operated by trained representatives. Their customer care team can be contacted through email or by telephone at 866-484-4800. LivSecure’s customer support number is 844-344-9861, or you can reach them by email at email@example.com.
Another good thing about My Alarm Center is that they offer promos from time to time that may help you save a bit on your investment. LivSecure may also continue that tradition. If you decide to go with My Alarm Center or LivSecure, I suggest waiting it out for such promotions. Otherwise, you may want to consider other companies with better equipment, higher-quality service, more commitment to customer service and support.
